‏ليس في الشريعة حكم واحد إلا وله معنى وحكمة؛ يعقله من عقله، ويخفى على من خفي عليه

Ibn al-Qayyim, a Hanbali philosopher wrote on the Law: “There is not in the Shari’ah one law except that it has meaning and a wisdom. Those who get it, get it. And it is concealed from those whom it is concealed.” (I’laam al-Muwaq’qieen)

Mindless articulation of phonemes, mindless conformity to legal rulings, mindless acquiescence to clerical authority is all found ONLY in one place. Village religion. For illiterate people. And it has been a ruse of the devil to make this the norm amongst literate folk. It has socialised many people into killing their brain cells. You can’t claim to be intelligent and part of advanced civilisation with village religion, you have to own that you aspire to regressiveness.

As Ibn al-Qayyim points out, every law has purpose, meaning and wisdom. If you or your leaders don’t get it, it’s okay to own the ignorance. But don’t assert it is unknowable or simply not there. “Those who get it, get it. And it is concealed from those whom it is concealed.”
